Sustainable Engineering

In all of our projects, Alta strives to ensure that we leave the environment in a better state than we found it. This is accomplished by applying the principles of Sustainable Engineering in all of our work.

Sustainable Engineering is the practice of designing and implementing engineering solutions that not only minimize negative environmental impacts, but promote long-term viability and sustainability in each project and its materials.

In other words, while our projects are designed and engineered to meet the needs and visions of our clients today, we always keep in mind the impact of those projects on future generations. We do this by promoting the following sustainable design practices:

  • minimizing resource consumption and waste generation;
  • considering the environmental impact of a project through its entire life cycle, from the selection of raw materials to end-of-life disposal considerations;
  • adhering to environmental regulations and standards, such as the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and other Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) requirements; and
  • implementing design solutions for uncertain and challenging environmental conditions and uncertainties.

We also advocate for the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energy, in order to reduce reliance and demand on non-renewable resources, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and generally reduce and minimize our carbon footprint as much as possible in all of our work.
